Amazon Prime for Handmade Sellers – Is It Right for Your Business?
“Amazon Prime isn’t just for big brands—Handmade sellers can tap into the same fast shipping and customer trust to grow their business!”- Amy Lineberry
If you’re an Amazon Handmade seller, you may not realize that you have access to Amazon Prime just like the big brands. That means faster shipping, better visibility, and increased customer trust—all of which can boost your sales and grow your business.
But how does it work for Handmade sellers? Let’s break it down.
Two Ways Handmade Sellers Can Use Prime
Amazon Handmade sellers have two Prime options:
1. Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP)
With Seller Fulfilled Prime, you ship orders yourself while keeping the Prime badge on your listings. That means your customers still get one- or two-day shipping—but you’re responsible for getting the orders out on time.
To qualify for SFP, you must:
✅ Meet Amazon’s strict shipping deadlines (orders must be shipped same-day or next-day)
✅ Maintain high on-time delivery and tracking accuracy
✅ Use Amazon-approved carriers
SFP works best for sellers who run their business full-time or have a team to help with order fulfillment. If you’re a one-person operation, keeping up with Prime’s shipping standards can be a challenge.
2. Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA)
With FBA, Amazon stores, packs, and ships your products for you. Once your products are in an Amazon fulfillment center, Amazon handles customer service, returns, and fast shipping.
Here’s why I love FBA:
✅ Less daily work – No more running to the post office!
✅ More visibility – Prime products often rank higher in search results.
✅ Higher conversion rates – Customers trust and prefer Prime shipping.
I started using FBA for my Handmade shop and saw huge growth. In 2023, I made just over $2,000 on Etsy—but in 2024, my Amazon Handmade sales skyrocketed to over $62,000 thanks to FBA!
Which Prime Option Is Right for You?
If you:
✅ Want full control over your shipping and can meet Amazon’s strict deadlines → SFP might be a good fit.
✅ Prefer to focus on creating and let Amazon handle shipping → FBA is the way to go.
I personally recommend starting with FBA—especially if you want to scale your business without being tied to daily shipping demands.
