“Your first Amazon Handmade listing doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be live and searchable.”- Amy Lineberry
Getting approved for Amazon Handmade is a huge win. But once you’re in, you’re left wondering: how do I list a handmade item on Amazon without losing my mind in Seller Central?
If you’ve been clicking through menus like you’re playing a very un-fun escape room, don’t worry — you’re not alone. In this post, I’ll walk you through the new listing experience for Amazon Handmade, what you need ready before you start, and the exact steps to get your first listing live.
Before you touch the “Add a product” button, get these items ready so you don’t get timed out mid-listing (because yes… Amazon loves logging people out 🙃).
Product photos (Amazon allows up to 9 images)
Shipping profile already created
Return address and account info completed
Tax info + bank account info set up in Seller Central
Your main image must be on a true white background
Make sure your photos are sized correctly
Try to use at least 4–5 images even though you get 9
There are two common ways to begin:
In Seller Central, open the menu and go to:
Catalog → Add ProductsOption B: Inventory → Manage All Inventory → Add a Product
This is often faster, especially if you already live in Manage Inventory.
Either route takes you to the same “Add a product” flow.
When the page loads, you’re going to select that you’re adding a Handmade product.
Then you’ll choose your category from Amazon’s Handmade options (these are the only ones available inside Handmade).
Important note:
If your product doesn’t fit into one of Amazon Handmade’s available product types, you may need to list it as a regular Amazon listing instead of a Handmade listing.
When you find your product type, star it so it shows in your favorites next time.
Your title matters because on mobile, shoppers see:
✅ a small photo
✅ your title
✅ the price
If your title isn’t clear, they’ll scroll right past you.
Brand name (optional but recommended by Amazon to include)
What the product is
Quantity / pack size (ex: 2 sheets)
Key use-case keywords (planner, journal, etc.)
Example from my workflow:
“Stormy Creatives Star Rating Stickers for Planners and Journaling, 2 Sheets, 90 Stickers”
Even if you use A+ Content, still fill in your description.
Why? If A+ content ever gets removed or you lose access, you don’t want your listing to be empty.
Size / dimensions
Materials
What’s included
How to use it
Anything custom/personalization related (only if true)
And yes — it looks like Amazon now allows more than 5 bullets, so use that extra real estate wisely… but don’t create a novel.
6. Upload Your Images
You can upload one at a time, but I recommend uploading multiple at once to save time.
White background
Zoomed enough to actually see details on mobile
If your product is tiny on the screen, it’s going to get ignored.
7. Fill Out Product Details (Keywords, Handling Time, Price)
This is where people accidentally sabotage their listing.
You don’t need to repeat words like Etsy tags. Amazon works differently.
Add keywords in a natural list
Don’t repeat the same word over and over
Include usage terms (planner, journal, tracking, etc.)
Do not leave this blank if you’re shipping yourself.
If it defaults to 1 day, Amazon will expect you to ship immediately.
Fill in both:
Your price
Your list price (even if it’s the same)
That list price is what allows Amazon to show coupons/discounts correctly later.

I created a short, actionable mini course specifically for handmade sellers that walks you through Amazon Seller Central, applying for Handmade, creating your Maker Profile, and getting your first listings live — without guessing your way through it.

8. Save, Submit… and Give It Time
After submitting, your listing may take up to 15 minutes to appear (sometimes longer depending on system load).
Also: don’t panic if Seller Central kicks you out for inactivity. It happens.
9. The Shortcut You’ll Love — Copy an Existing Listing
If you sell similar items (stickers, candles, soap, etc.), don’t start from scratch every time.
In Manage All Inventory, click the three dots on an existing listing and choose:
✅ Copy Listing
Then just update the fields that change:
title
photos
keywords
price
etc.
This saves so much time and keeps your listings consistent.
Creating your first listing in Amazon Handmade can feel overwhelming at first — but once you understand where everything lives in Seller Central, it gets way easier.
